Greetings friends,
The importance of touch can be overlooked in this age of technology. The messages we see across the screen each day can keep us so preoccupied we can become detached from our bodies.
A councilor I was seeing 23 years ago said to me one day “anyone that has ever seen the 6:00 news has PTSD”. Been thinking about this since and in light of the way things are going, it’s really painted a huge picture for me as to why so many people live in a state of anxiety and loneliness so much of the time. The media in general has a negative impact on our nervous systems and how we interact with others as well as our own bodies and health.
Touch and being around real people can actually seem strange to some after all the “threats” and orders to isolate over the past 4 years. When something becomes habit, it’s a challenge to shift gears into something more natural.
In my April 22 article on Sex Coaching and the Value of Touch there was a mention of the many intentions and spectrum of touch. I’d like to cover that in more detail today. For more information on touch, click on TOUCHPART1
It can certainly go without saying that hugs are a wonderful form of touch. In 2020 I lost a wonderful cuddle and hug buddy to all of the insanity. Today I am pleased to have friends that love to and are unafraid to hug and cuddle. Some are readers of my Substack - you know who you are: please know that I adore you deeply. 🥰
One long distance friend, Antanas, has the most healing hugs. He will hug someone for as long as needed. He is also a foodie and loves to cook for people, which is another form of connection that we are getting detached from in the digital world. Whether it’s about hugs or food, one of his gifts in life is bringing nourishment to others.
While living in Asheville, Antanas came over to visit and I introduced him to a house mate that was having a challenging day. They spoke for a few minutes. When he asked my housemate if he wanted a hug and the answer was yes, they stood in the middle of the kitchen, with all kinds of activities going on around them and hugged for what must have been a half an hour. I was witnessing a ship within a safe harbor in the eye of my housemates emotional “storm”.
TAROT AND TOUCH
The 7 of Swords in the Thoth deck is listed as Futility. Feelings of despair and confusion may be present; it can certainly be an indication of excessive screen time. Have you felt a disconnect towards others after a full day on your devices?
One thing I have learned the hard way is to be sure to step away from my computer and do a mini meditation* before trying to engage with others in moments of overwhelm, uncertainty and/or even low blood sugar. I generally take a deep breath and sit comfortably for a bit to unravel any unwarranted fears involving another person.
If your upcoming peopling moment is about touch, as in one person wants to be held or erotically touched and the other person isn’t on the same page about it, it’s good to sort through how to communicate to the other person about this. Doubts can at times be unfounded, so it’s best to find a way to talk about it.
7 of Swords artwork is unusually bland for the Decameron deck! There’s generally at least one naked person on the card that’s up to something spicy. Here we see a castle. Besides the 7 swords decorating the upper and lower parts of the card, that’s it.
However, there’s something nefarious and dark within the castle. Have some fun imagining what happens inside those walls considering castles are the domaine of royalty.
7 of Swords in the Marseille deck warns of scandal and uncertainty. Rising above these situations and finding personal clarity is the message in all 3 of these cards.
The 7 numerology in tarot is bringing you information on emotional drives and desire. With Swords, it’s giving information about how your mind is working and where your thinking processes are taking you. With 7 of Swords, there is a suggestion to resolve misunderstandings.
When we overthink, become overly emotional concerning how we touch and like to be touched, this can possibly put your connection to another person into a tail spin.
Slowing down for a moment to collect your thoughts to find your center will be calming. A good way to accomplish this is to sit and drop your thinking self into your body. What does your body feel like at the moment? Notice where you feel tense. Don’t wrestle with any of this, just witness the tension in the body. Breathe deeply before getting back to any task at hand.
*meditation: this isn’t about chanting OM and clearing away all thinking. It’s about slowing down and becoming aware of how your body is tensing or relaxing to any particular situation with a more somatic awareness. It can be called other things besides meditation if that word doesn’t fit for you.
8 of Wands Thoth deck is called Swiftness. It boldly lets you know that Mercury is in Sagittarius, which makes it an indication that the time is ripe for overcoming misunderstandings and finding fearless ways to conquer hinderances. This brings a fast and fiery time, best for stepping into your truth if you’re intent on finding solutions
.
8 of Wands Decameron is back to it’s naughty revelations. With this card in your reading, being confident and dashing will play in your favor. How does touch with another person weave into your experiences today?
8 of Wands Marseille deck represents courage. Are you ready to take the next step with another person, be it a first hug or the first time to make love to them? Breathe in self-assurance and smile. Invite another into your arms.
If you have had a misunderstanding with your friend, lover or other, finding ways to make touch a bridge towards transforming the tension into treasure can be fun. Whether it’s about hugging, scheduling a two-some massage together or make-up sex, what’s not to enjoy in these activities once you are on the road to understanding.
Enjoy touch and sensation play with others whenever possible. There are so many options here, depending on who you will be touching and touched by. This is one of the aspects of my Intimacy Coaching practice - assisting others in discovering the ways that touch and physical bonding can bring a great deal of peace and relaxation to life. And it certainly assists in connecting with others when the rest of the world seems to have gone mad.
